The gueltas are a kind of oasis typical of the deserts, although its definition refers more precisely to a natural water basin in the form of wells or lakes that can be temporary, seasonal or permanent, in this case, it is a permanent one fed by groundwater. The Ounianga Lakes are a series of 18 lakes in the Sahara desert, in north-eastern Chad, located in a basin between the Tibesti massifs to the west, and Ennedi, to the east. The name of the lake group is derived from the name of a nearby town. The lakes are in a hot and hyper-arid desert that has a rainfall of fewer than 2 millimeters per year. Zakouma National Park
The Zakouma National Park is situated on an immense plain, traversed from north to south by the Bahr Salamat River and its tributaries.
